In-Home ABA Therapy
Therapy in your child's natural environment
In-home ABA therapy is delivered in your family's home rather than a clinic. This approach allows the therapist to work on skills in the exact environment where your child uses them -- navigating daily routines, playing with siblings, eating at the family table, and getting ready for school. Because skills are practiced where they actually happen, in-home ABA can be especially effective for generalizing behaviors to daily life.
Who is this right for?
In-home ABA is particularly useful for younger children whose daily routines are home-centered, for families with transportation challenges, for children who struggle with transitions between environments, and for working on specific home-based behaviors like mealtimes, sleep routines, or sibling interactions. It also provides more direct opportunities for parent participation in sessions.
What to expect
A registered behavior technician (RBT) comes to your home, typically for sessions of 2-3 hours. The BCBA supervises remotely and visits in-person regularly (supervision requirements vary but are typically at least monthly). You and other family members are usually present and often actively involved in sessions. The BCBA develops a treatment plan based on an initial home assessment and functional behavior assessment.
